Analysing Airbnb hosts in Berlin

During the course “From Reading to Exploring - Visual Storytelling in Data Journalism” at the University of Applied Science Potsdam we noticed that there was a debate around Airbnb and the housing market in Berlin. Airbnb itself did not see a connection but kept the actual data on offers and providers under wraps. The aim of the project was to create a basis for discussion by investigative collecting the data, preparing it visually and explaining it. It is available in German and English.

The project was widely featured in the German media, amongst others by Zeit Online (1,2), Die ZEIT, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Tagesspiegel, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Wired, Wired (Interview), Vice, netzpolitik.org, Radio Eins and detektor.fm.

The project has been nominated for various awards, among others: Grimme Online Award, Designpreis Brandenburg, Information is Beautiful Award and CartoDB Insight: A Data and Design Competition.
