Footnotes on a film

In the exhibition “Critical Zones: Observatories for Earthly Politics” at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Asia Bazdyrieva and Solveig Suess exhibited the investigative documentary “Making of Earths”. A film about large-scale systems and infrastructures amid growing ecological and political anxieties. The online screening of Making of Earths was footnoted with personal field notes, references, and informative accounts taken during the duo’s yearlong, documentary-led research into Geocinema – the data infrastructures of the Belt and Road and their cinematic feedback loops. I joined the two to design and create the interface to navigate the film and display the interactive footnotes.
