Monitoring Germany’s energy transition

Transformation Tracker

As part of the Kopernikus Ariadne project, scientists from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research set out to measure the progress of Germany’s energy transition. The experts identified well over 40 indicators, ranging from transport, buildings and electrification to lifestyle and efficiency, that provide a comprehensive picture of the field. With several possible scenarios for achieving climate neutrality in 2045, these indicators could then be matched with their equivalents in the data produced by the model. With historical, current and target data points, we were then able to calculate and visualise the progress.
